Battlefield report from the Commanding Forces for the Boone County Historical Society.
It is with much angst that we report our great forces have met with an unseen enemy on the battlefield, an adversary more formidable than the opposing forces or dysentery.
We regrettably find ourselves ill prepared to do battle with GENERAL COVID-19, whose troops fight by unconventional means and fail to consign themselves to the prevailing rules of engagement.
This new enemy strikes fear in the hearts of men not only of the north and south, but of the east and west.
It would be ill-conceived at this juncture to muster our troops in close quarters, given the irreverent nature of this new foe.
Not wishing to hallow the ground with the lives of innocent folks of these United States, we shall hastily withdraw ourselves from the battlefield whilst a means is sought to conquer this enemy.
This decision is made cautiously and with much trepidation, however; it is altogether fitting and proper that we should retreat to fight another day.
We remain dedicated to the great task remaining before us, and acknowledge the selfless devotion of those who stand at our side. We will see you in 2021.
Yours Truly,
BCHS Command *
